Status: Full Time, Non-exempt
Salary: $15.00-17.00/hour

The Youth Services and Transition Coordinator is responsible for providing health and wellness services to
transitional age youth (TAY) at The LGBTQ Center of Long Beach, which includes planning and implementing
programs that connect clients ages 16-24 to job, education, health, and housing resources, as well as assisting
in broader youth and family services at The Center, including the Mentoring Youth Through Empowerment
(MYTE) program and 20Somethings group.

 Implements and organizes transition plans with TAY clients, and maintains documentation of
client progress.
 Provides linkage to resources for housing, employment, benefit programs, and post-secondary
 Serves as client advocate during referral and linkage process.
 Participates in weekly clinical intake meetings.
 Develops and provides trainings/workshops on adulthood transition, including, but not limited to,
topics such as resume creation, interview skills, money management, and post-high school
employment and education options.
 Develops relationships with TAY service agencies, organizations and providers that lead to the
identification and referral of LGBTQ youth.

 Facilitates and develops curriculum for weekly 20 Somethings group (Wednesdays 7-9pm).
 Manages and creates TAY programs relating to employment, housing, post-secondary
education, and other adult transition-related topics.
 Develops quarterly programming/events for 20 Something participants

 Performs agency/program outreach at schools and special events.
 Assists Youth Services Manager in overseeing MYTE program and family services programs,
including special events and field trips.
 Serves as mentor, tutor, and advocate for youth.
 Refers to community partners and local resources where necessary to provide assistance to
youth, caregivers, and facilitators.
 Keeps agency resources (referral database, website, publications) updated with current youth
related information and resources.
 Attends meetings as required by agency and department.
 Co-supervises youth program volunteers.
 Initiates billing and maintains proper documentation of outreach, education, consultation,
support and planning activities as required by program funding sources.
 Other duties as necessary or assigned.

Desired Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
 High aptitude to engage youth and younger adults in social settings; able to facilitate inclusion of those
who may exhibit social inhibition.
 A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a related field is preferred (e.g. education, non-profit, counseling,
psychology, social work, women’s studies, gender studies, ethnic studies, public health, etc.).
 40 hour Domestic Violence Advocate certification a plus.
 At least two years’ experience working with youth required.
 Bilingual (Spanish, Khmer, and/or ASL) strongly desired.
 Ability to pass Department of Justice background check.
 Demonstrated success working with diverse populations, exceptional work ethic and self initiative
 Strong interpersonal, organizational and computer skills required.
 Knowledge of case management, child welfare, and academic counseling is preferred.
 Must be open and flexible to working evenings and weekends.
