Position: Program Advocate Coordinator Location: SOJURN

Summary
The Programs Advocate/Coordinator (PAC) provides all-around client services support, assisting in
varying situations depending on need, moving seamlessly from one task to another.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Provide supervision, crisis intervention, and peer support to shelter residents
2. Fill in shifts across the program as needed
3. Facilitate or supervise client meetings, groups, and workshops
4. Maintain comprehensive service provision log, progress notes, hotline call sheets, volunteer
files, and other shelter records
5. Conduct or assist shelter staff with case management duties, health screenings, child care,
intake and exit assessments
6. Complete data entry and statistical reporting for all funders; ensure shelter staff are
entering client data accurately and on time
7. Do daily walk through to assess shelter facilities and report any issues to management
immediately
8. Transport clients, call sheets, weekly food bank donations, groceries for shelter as needed
9. Assist with volunteer supervision, training, and scheduling
10. Responsible for safe storage and responsible and ethical use of all donated or purchased
materials

Qualifications

1. Must have or be able to earn a 40-Hour Training Certificate from Sojourn within six months of
hire
2. Bachelor’s degree preferred; or High School Diploma and a minimum one year’s experience
working with a population facing issues of homelessness, mental illness, substance abuse, medical
issues, and domestic violence; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
3. Experience with domestic violence dynamics, crisis intervention, and peer counseling
4. Strong organizational, time management, and crisis intervention skills
5. Able to work well with culturally diverse clientele, including LGBT, disabled, and those with
substance abuse and/or mental health issues
6. Valid CA Driver’s license, reliable car, auto insurance, and an acceptable driving record
7. Knowledge of child development, non-violent conflict resolution, empowerment parenting
techniques, the effects of domestic violence upon children, social service agencies, and government
help systems
8. Computer literacy, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
9. Able to set healthy boundaries, obtain and maintain CPR/1st Aid certification, and work
occasional shifts on evenings, weekends, and emergency overnights
10. Able to transport residents and run errands in your vehicle and to occasionally lift and carry
items weighing 25 pounds or less
11. Bilingual Spanish and English
12. Able to successfully complete Livescans fingerprinting
