Position Summary
The Development Specialist will assist with identifying, defining, and developing relationships with funding sources and coordinate the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals. This position also provides pre-award and post-award administrative support towards the processing of grant and contract proposals in collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer and Development Consultant.

Compensation and Benefits
The compensation for this position is $30.00 to $42.00 per hour. WCC offers competitive salary and benefits including:

Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Research, interpret, and draft program information needed for the development of grant proposals and managing required reports.
  • Write letters of intent, grant proposals, and applications.
  • Ensure funding compliance reports are completed as required.
  • Cultivate relationships with fund development sources, including the acknowledgement of all gifts and donations.
  • Monitor grant goals and objectives and ensure grant deliverables are in compliance with guidelines.
  • Facilitate grant writing and fund development activities with other team members as appropriate.
  • Assist with public relations activities including social media management and internal/external communications.
  • Assist with creating an overall development strategy along with the CEO and Development Consultant to meet WCC fundraising goals.
  • Assist the Capital Campaign Consultant with oversight the capital campaign which includes developing a major gifts prospective donor list and locating sources for federal, state, local, and private funding and in-kind resources.
  • Prepare direct mail solicitations and provide ongoing support with WCC annual fundraising events.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or Marketing and/or equivalent experience required.
  • 2 to 3 years of successful experience in grant writing and the development and submission of state,  federal funded and privately funded grants.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting or non-profit preferred.


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively create, build, and cultivate relationships with prospective and existing funding sources.
  • High level of interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships.
  • Integrity and the ability to keep information confidential.
  • High level of attention to details and the ability to manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of fundraising activities and capital campaign activities.
  • Ability to work well within a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet research.
