The Long Beach Museum of Art seeks a qualified exhibition installer. This is a part time, seasonal, on call position will assist the Preparatory crew team. The candidate will assist with hanging and installing artworks, fabrication of displays for exhibition installations, painting, unpacking and packing incoming and outgoing artworks.

Job Responsibilities

16 -20 hours weekly for duration of installation per exhibition calendar

Assists supervisor and is able to work independently on assigned tasks such as:

·         Painting, hanging artworks, installing artworks, and displays

·         Fabricating display structures, walls and miscellaneous aesthetics pertaining to exhibition layout

·         Packing and unpacking outgoing and incoming artworks

·         Works well with a team and problem solves through collaboration

·         Listens and responds appropriately to coworkers, museum staff and visitors of the museum

·         Applies job skills and department policies and procedures to complete tasks in creative and effective manner

Qualifications

·         6 months to 2 years related experience

·         Experience working in a museum, gallery or artist’s studio setting preferred

·         Knowledge about hanging artworks and installing sculpture

·         Woodworking, painting and construction experience

·         Reliable transportation to and from the job site

·         Proof of Vaccination

·         Ability and willingness to handle works of art of moderate size and weight safely. Must be able to lift art objects up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, and to climb stairs and ladders.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

·         Applied mathematics in artwork installation

·         Paint application knowledge

·         Experience with power tools, wood/metal shop machinery and lift apparatuses

·         Experience with packing and unpacking artworks

·         Spatial awareness and ability to adhere to safe work practices

Knowledge of audiovisual equipment used for exhibitions (e.g., digital projectors, projector mounting hardware, media players, amplifiers, speakers, HDBaseT transmitters and receivers, flat screen monitors, and flat screen monitor mounting hardware)

 

Non-exempt, part time

$18.00 to $22 DOE
