Program Description: Long Beach Camerata Singers (LBCS) has developed a pre-kindergarten education program, the Camerata Children’s Music Academy (CCMA), which serves preschool children ages 3-5 at a variety of locations and partners. The program is based on a series of workshops that teach music fundamentals for older children and music and movement classes for younger children. Workshops are 30 minutes in duration and may be repeated several times per session to keep class sizes small.  Instructional classes are offered three times per week over 40 weeks per year. Music and movement classes are offered twice per week to younger students. All students are invited to quarterly performances.

 

*CCMA Kinder Troupe performance is a 30-40 minute musical skit by professional singers/ actors that specifically teaches vocal arts and musical concepts to children. EA is expected to attend each performance.

 

Job Description: Education Assistant (EA) will assist with the preparation and execution of Pre-K workshops and performances. EA will assist with music workshops at a variety of local non-profit community partners’ locations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

–          Be fluent in all musical concepts presented in CCMA workshops (i.e. tempo, harmony, beat, solfege/Curwen hand symbols, Kodaly rhythm etc)

–          Have the ability to interact with students by providing strong and accurate examples for them to follow

–          Foster a welcoming and comfortable environment in the students’ classrooms

–          Engage with teachers, and staff to provide a most seamless experience for their students

–          Help record qualitative and quantitative measurements of childrens’ engagement and retention of information

–          Assist as need with pro singers at rehearsals and performance

 

Job Qualifications:

 

–          Bachelors of Music, or Education, or enrollment in a community college or university program

–          Knowledge of basic music terms, concepts and techniques as described above

–          Strong Interest in working with young children

–          Upbeat, outgoing personality and a welcoming demeanor

–          Previous pre-K experience a plus

–          Available for flexible scheduling Monday through Friday

–          Available for some weekend or evening hours, with notice
